Bilberry, also known as Huckleberry or Whortleberry, is a perennial shrub found predominantly in Northern Europe and North America. It produces a fruit similar to blueberry, which yields an active component known as anthocyanoside. Bilberry appears to be extremely useful for a number of visual and vascular disorders, including retinal disorders, myopia, night blindness, pigmentary retinitis, varicose veins, phlebitis, hypertension and arteriosclerosis. It stabilizes collagen and helps to repair and maintain the integrity of capillaries and is a powerful antioxidant and free radical scavenger.
